The Track System

enginecarcar
Roughly speaking, the track system of our model railway consists of 3 circles, called the Outer Circle, the Inner Circle, and the Kicking Horse Pass, respectively. Each has one station where trains may stop and stay on sidings. While the Kicking Horse Pass station consists of 5 tracks, the others only offer 3 tracks. Outer Circle and Inner Circle are operated in a uni-directional way. While trains on the Outer Circle always run in counterclockwise direction, trains on the Inner Circle exclusively run clockwise. In Contrast to those, the Kicking Horse Pass is operated in both directions. To make traffic more complex, the Kicking Horse Pass station is also connected to the Inner Circle as well as to the Outer Circle by additional lines. Trains are also allowed to switch between the Inner and Outer Circle by using turning loops. Special attention is required here since this implies the reversal of the train's direction.

Within the following maps, navigation can be done by clicking into the respective parts of each map. Each map exists in two version. While the in-line GIF image is more suitable for viewing, maps may easily be printed by using the respective PostScript version. Each map comes together with some additional information regarding the particular local situation. Since space is always short on maps, points and signals are sometimes labeled by their short names. For example, a point is simply labeled "P1". In these cases, the label must be prefixed by the area label, e.g. "IC_JCT" for the Inner Circle Junction, resulting in the full label "IC_JCT_P1" for the respective point.
