Bio

Here's some other, more or less random, stuff.

Artsy Stuff:
Of all the art forms I probably like photography the most. Well, maybe apart from music. Anyway, my favorite photographers include Nan Goldin, William Eggleston, Andreas Gursky (samples), Martin Parr, Thomas Demand (samples), Philippe Chancel, and Bernd and Hilla Becher (samples). I'm generally pretty keen on industrial photography. Not sure why, maybe it's because I grew up close to an area with lots of heavy industry and coal mines (Ruhr Area).

Although I can't really say I'm much into drawing, I do like Raymond Pettibon (click here for some samples). I first noticed his drawings on the covers of some of my vinyls (and yes, I do belong to that generation that actually bought vinyls), including Sonic Youth and Black Flag.

Literary Stuff:
I do enjoy reading. This includes books from a wide spectrum. From 'classics' to historical. If I had to pick a favorite writer it'd probably be Franz Kafka.
Currently on my nightstand: Richard P. Feynman Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!

Sporty Stuff:
I do like playing squash although I haven't played for a while now :(

Geeky Stuff:
The obvious ones: Slashdot, Digg, The Register, and Wired.

News Stuff:
I'm a bit of a news junkie, getting my daily fix from all kinds of sources, ranging from the venerable Beeb and Reuters, to AT5 (yes, I still do follow the local news of Amsterdam from time to time). I should not forget to mention The Onion, one of my favorites.

Mac Stuff:
I'm a relatively recent Apple Mac convert (used to use Linux before). I bought my first PowerBook in 2004. Since then I have become a true believer. Best sources for knowing what's cooking behind the doors of 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA: 9to5Mac and The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW).

Language Stuff:
   Mark Liberman's Language Log.

Erdöstuff:
Well, my Erdös number is a not particularly exciting 4 (Paul Erdös -> Saharon Shelah -> Dov M. Gabbay -> Maarten de Rijke -> me).
