3rd MARA Get-Together: Workshop on Multiagent Resource Allocation
Amsterdam, 5-6 June 2008
Multiagent Resource Allocation (MARA), the allocation of resources within a system of autonomous
agents that not only have preferences over alternative allocations of resources but also
actively participate in computing an allocation, is an exciting area of research at the
interface of computer science and economics.
On 5-6 June 2008, the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation
(ILLC) at the
University of Amsterdam
will host the 3rd MARA Get-Together, an informal workshop on Multiagent Resource Allocation.
The meeting is aimed at bringing together researchers working on different aspects of MARA.
Topics of interest include languages for modelling agent preferences in resource allocation applications;
the study of algorithms for resource allocation (including combinatorial auctions and distributed negotiation schemes);
complexity issues; simulation and experiments; and connections to work in social choice theory and fair division.
The workshop is made possible through financial support from the European
COST Action IC0602 on Algorithmic Decision Theory
and continues the tradition of the AgentLink Technical Forum Group on Multiagent Resource Allocation
(TFG-MARA), with previous meetings in Ljubljana
and Budapest. In 2006, the group has published the
MARA Survey
(Informatica, 30:3-31, 2006).
Programme
The programme will consist of tutorials, invited talks, and a systems session, and there will be plenty of room for discussion.
We also plan to have a rump session, giving participants the opportunity to very briefly
introduce some of their ongoing work and latest ideas in an informal manner.
On the second workshop day Dov Samet, who is currently a visiting professor at the ILLC, will give a lecture
(on the epistemic foundations of game theory) to which all workshop participants are cordially invited.
Here are the slides of the presentations given at the workshop:
Contributions to the rump session were made by
Dídac Busquets (Girona),
Beatriz López (Girona),
Stéphane Airiau (ILLC, Amsterdam),
Azzurra Ragone (Bari),
Viktor Winschel (Mannheim),
Sylvain Bouveret (ONERA, Toulouse),
Kevin Leyton-Brown (British Columbia),
and Yann Chevaleyre (LAMSADE, Paris-Dauphine).
Attendance
Anyone interested is very welcome to participate in the workshop.
There will be no registration fee, but for planning purposes we will have to know who's coming.
If you wish to attend, please send an email to Ulle Endriss (ulle@illc.uva.nl) no later than 28 May 2008. We may be able to provide modest financial support to a couple of participants (PhD students or junior staff). Please contact the organiser if you are interested.
Location
The workshop will take place in the Euclides Building (also known as the P building) on the
Roeterseiland campus of the University of Amsterdam, just east of the city centre.
The street address is Plantage Muidergracht 24 (map).
The closest tram stop is Plantage Badlaan (actually on Plantage Middenlaan), near Amsterdam Zoo (known as Artis).
Lines 9 and 14 stop here (the former coming straight from Amsterdam Centraal station).
All talks will be in room P.017, on the ground floor (except for the ILLC Beth Lecture, which will be in P.227).
