Overview GigaPort Research: Tools and Results

This page gives an overview of the tools and results from which the research is supported by the GigaPort project. Please note that some of these tools and results were already related with the tasks defined in Work Package 3 from the DataTAG project which has been finished now. Please note also that not all work done can be published here. The following Web sites are available:

• Network Test and Monitoring Tools.
  In this site an overview has been given of the proposed test and monitor tools to be used. Also short description of these tools have been given. Useful, non-default configurations are discussed and modifications and extensions of the discussed tools are available for downloading.
• Netherlight Lambda Test Results.
  In this site the monitor and test results are presented that were obtained at the Netherlight Lambda from SURFnet. Because both networks have about the same characteristics (long fat networks with limited routing and therefore relatively few memory buffer capacity, these results may serve very well as a testbed for the DataTAG connection from which some test results are also presented in the next item.
• DataTAG CERN - StarLight Link Test Results.
  In this site the test results are presented that were obtained at the DataTAG test link between CERN, Geneva and StarLight, Chicago.
• Protocol Testbed Results.
  In this site the results are presented from experiments with alternative test protocols such as UDT and RBUDP, also in combination with the standard TCP and UDP protocols. These tests were and still are being executed as a function of the round-trip time to investigate the influences of that parameter.
• GridFTP Tests on DAS-2 Cluster.
  The purpose of this monitor which was run on the DAS-2 cluster was to get experience with the network measurements and tests in a Grid way. During the test periods various job scheduling techniques were used. The monitor was stopped at the moment some DAS-2 clusters were no longer regularly available.
• SURFnet6 Tests.
  In these tests some network components of the SURFnet6 network. For these tests our Rembrandt hosts were used which were during the tests equipped with various 10 Gbit/s Ethernet interfaces.
• DAS-3 Myrinet Tests.
  In this site the results of tests are presented that were run upon the Myri-10G network technology that is used at the DAS-3 computer clusters. New results will still being add to this site.
