After RoboCup 2002 which was held in Fukuoka, Japan, and preceding RoboCup 2004 which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, the present competition, RoboCup 2003, is the 7th RoboCup competition since the inception of the RoboCup events in 1997.

RoboCup 2003 is being held from July 2 to July 11, 2003 in Padua, Italy. It features competitions in the different directions pursued by the RoboCup project, such as simulation league, simulation coach and presentation leagues, small-size league, mid-size league, four-legged league, humanoid league, RoboRescue simulation league, RoboRescue robot league, and RoboCup Junior/Soccer/Rescue/Dance.

Apart from the competitions, a central part of the event is the RoboCup Symposium which offers a forum to present and discuss scientific ideas related or relevant to the topics of RoboCup. The symposium offers a paper and a poster track, and it includes a forum for the discussion of a RoboCup roadmap and the future of RoboCup. In addition, for the first time, the RoboCup Symposium will offer four parallel SIG tracks, covering the learning, simulation, multiagent modeling, and vision SIGs.

The present proceedings contain the Symposium papers and posters as well as team descriptions from the different leagues.
