Title: Optical Properties of Er in Si
Salvatore Minissale - June 16 2008
Abstract
Rare earth (RE) doped silicon structures have been investigated extensively in the last decades for development of optical materials and devices. Many drawbacks have to be overcome in order to achieve stimulated emission. Mostly, low optical activity and the multiplicity of sites occupied by the RE dopants make the system not suitable for such a purpose.
Si/Si:Er multinanolayers have been shown to be promising materials to achieve optical gain in silicon. I will review their main features and present some of the results we achieved thus far.
