Projects Play'D is an interactive and adaptive electronic play-cloth for children aged 0-6. Currently Play'd is heavily in developement, but the idea won the Science Park Idea Concest 2009! Check out Play'D's page for more details and photo's.

SiteGuide In the SiteGuide project, we are working on a tool that compares websites and suggests (improvements of) content and stucture of a website to amateur webdesigners. The system that we are developing is able to compare a draft web-based system with a collection of other systems that is compiled by the user. The result of the comparison is a list of terms, pages, link structures, scripts, etc. in which the current draft system differs from systems in the list. This can then be used to refine the draft. The main difficulty here is how to compare websites and how to detect general characteristics of a collection of websites.

Ph.D Project: I am currently, for my Ph.D. thesis, working on a project concerning Ontology Learning and Population for the Semantic Web. At one hand I am trying to come up with methods for the (semi-)automatic learning, population and enrichment of Ontologies. This data is being used in the tool developed by the MultimediaN E-Culture Project, for which I am doing research. The tool actually won the Semantic Web Challenge 2006!

Random stuff In November 2006 the people from the Informatics student magazine Cavia asked me to write a bit about me and my research, you can find that here (in Dutch).
In order to be seen as a real Semantic Webber one has to have a 'semantic homepage' in FOAF, so here it is :). I have another contribution to the Semantic Web in the form of an OWL version of Jorge Luis Borges' Celestial Emporium of Benevolent Knowledge.

Also, here is a cool page that displays birth and death places of artist that are retrieved from the Web using my redundancy method. Ontology Population, Prolog, RDF, Google Maps API, Javascript, XML all come together on this page :).

Publications My publications can be found here.

Short CV You can find a short Curriculum Vitae here (PDF).
I also have a link to my Master's thesis: Optimal Learning and the Spacing Effect (PDF) which I worked on at the Neuromod group (see also my personal Neuromod page). For this thesis I was awarded the KION thesis award 2002/2003 in May 2004.

Photo's
I have a couple of photo pages located on this server:
Hobbies
My hobbies include filming, and I am planning on making a short film in the near future, possibly a dance film. I also have a (dutch) dance and film cv. Of course I also like to watch regular movies (watching and making them), football (watching and playing), reading books and graphic novels (watching websites about making them), the World Wide Web (and cool stuff on it), games (computer and normal ones).
I write blogs (mainly about science) for a Dutch group weblog: www.geencommentaar.nl.
