In particular I have requested a meeting theme for our SIAG at the 2006 SIAM Annual Meeting which is to be held in Boston, July 10th-14th 2006. I hope that there can be a good representation from our SIAG at this meeting. This summer I shall be attending workshop on "Special Functions and Orthogonal Polynomials" which is part of the meeting "Foundations of Computational Mathematics", Santander, Spain (June 30-July 2), the meeting "Special Functions: Asymptotic Analysis and Computation, a Conference in honor of Nico Temme's 65th Birthday", Santander, Spain (July 4-6) and the OPSFA8/ICDEA10, Munich, Germany (July 25-29). I look forward to seeing members of our SIAG at these meetings. Topic #2 ---------- OP-SF NET 12.3 ------------ May 15, 2005 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Peter Clarkson Subject: Painleve Equations and Monodromy Problems There is to be a short programme at the Newton Institute entitled "The Painleve Equations and Monodromy Problems", 4-29 September 2006. The organisers are Philip Boalch (Ecole Normale Superieure), Peter Clarkson (Kent), Lionel Mason (Oxford) and Yousuke Ohyama (Osaka). Details can be found at http://www.newton.cam.ac.uk/programmes/PEM/index.html Topic #3 ---------- OP-SF NET 12.3 ------------ May 15, 2005 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: OP-SF NET Editor Subject: AMADE 2006 in Minsk This information is from the web site: http://www.amade-bsu.com/ The Belarusian State University and the Institute of Mathematics of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences together with Moscow State University organize the fourth International Conference "Analytic Methods of Analysis and Differential Equations" (AMADE-2006) in September, 2006, in Minsk, Belarus. The Conference will be dedicated to centenary of academician Fedor Dmitrievich Gakhov (1906-1980). It maintains the tradition of the previous conferences "Boundary Value Problems, Fractional Calculus and Special Functions" (1996) and "Analytic Methods of Analysis and Differential Equations" (1999, 2001, 2003), held in Minsk. The Conference is organized under the guidance of the International Society of Applied Analysis and Computation (ISAAC). Section titles: * Integral Transforms and Special Functions * Differential Equations * Integral, Difference and Functional Equations and Fractional Calculus * Real and Complex Analysis * Applied Problems of Analysis and Differential Equations The length of plenary invited lectures is 45 min, reports - 20 min and short communications - 10 min. The publication of the abstract and the proceedings is planned. The Second Announcement containing additional information on the preliminary list of participants, abstracts preparation, exact date and place of the Conference as well as its financial conditions will be sent in September, 2005. Topic #4 ---------- OP-SF NET 12.3 ------------ May 15, 2005 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Krishnaswami Alladi Subject: New Sastra Ramanujan Prize SASTRA University, a private university in South India formed about 15 years ago, has announced the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize of $10,000 to be awarded annually to a young mathematician not exceeding the age of 32 for outstanding contributions in an area of mathematics influenced by Ramanujan. Please go to http://www.math.ufl.edu/sastra-prize/ to see the full announcement. SASTRA's entry into the world of Ramanujan began in 2003 with the purchase of Ramanujan's home in Kumbakonam, South India, in order to maintain it as a museum for posterity. Now SASTRA has launched this prize in the name of Ramanujan. I request your help in publicizing this by displaying this in your web site and in drawing the attention of mathematicians at conferences you will be attending. The Group also includes engineers and scientists, students as well as experts. We have around 140 members scattered about in more than 20 countries. Whatever your specialty might be, we welcome your participation in this classical, and yet modern, topic. Our WWW home page is: http://math.nist.gov/opsf/ This is a convenient point of entry to all the services provided by the Group. Our Webmaster is Bonita Saunders (bonita.saunders@nist.gov). The Activity Group sponsors OP-SF NET, which is transmitted periodically by SIAM. It is provided as a free public service; membership in SIAM is not required. The OP-SF Net Editor is Martin Muldoon (muldoon@yorku.ca). To receive the OP-SF NET, send your name and email address to poly-request@siam.org. Back issues can be obtained at the WWW addresses: http://staff.science.uva.nl/~thk/opsfnet http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/JAT/DATA/OPSFNET/opsfnet.html http://math.nist.gov/opsfnet/archive For several years the Activity Group sponsored a printed Newsletter, most recently edited by Rafael Yanez. Back issues are accessible at: http://www.mathematik.uni-kassel.de/~koepf/siam.html Given the widespread availability of email and the Internet, the need for the printed Newsletter has decreased. Discussions are underway concerning whether an annual printed Newsletter or Annual Report should be instituted. SIAM has several categories of membership, including low-cost categories for students and residents of developing countries.
