Samson Tikitu de Jager
… really does exist
I recently completed my PhD dissertation (now with the committee) at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, working (along with Michael Franke) on the project “The Economics of Language”, run by Robert van Rooij. I have an MSc in logic, also from the UvA, and a BSc (Hons.) in computer science from Otago University, New Zealand.
… teaches stuff
September 2009 to January 2010 I'm teaching two courses:
- Logisch Programmeren en Zoektechnieken (as course coordinator)
- Logica en de Linguistic Turn (as one of seven lecturers)
The first is a first-year course in the Bachelors in Artificial Intelligence program (its English title would be Logic Programming and Techniques for Search). It introduces programming with Prolog, and covers basic graph-search algorithms and the notion that planning and reasoning can be thought of as search problems.
The second is a first-year course in the Philosophy Bachelors program. It gives an introduction to formal logic, and its importance in philosophy: from Aristotle through Leibnitz to Frege and (the early) Wittgenstein.
… used to help organise stuff
I was on the organising committee for the DIP colloquium (2007/2008) and the Szklarska Poreba workshop (2008).
… is permanently under construction
Just like this page. My private homepage and blog is at logophile.org, where you'll also find my academic activities, publications and so forth.
