drs. Michiel W. van Tol is a fourth year PhD student at the Computer Systems Architecture
group at the University of Amsterdam, where he also received his MSc degree in 2006,
specializing in Computer Architecture. He has a broad background and interest in computer
systems, including nearly ten years of experience as a professional Linux System
Administrator. His research interests include Many-core Architectures, Operating Systems,
Parallel run-times and Multi-threading, Distributed Systems and Resource Management.
Currently he is writing his PhD thesis on designing Operating Systems for SVP based
Many-core architectures.
Intel Single-Cloud-Computer research:
We recently received two awards for our participation in the Intel SCC research. The first is a
best paper award at the 3rd MARC Symposium in Ettlingen, July 5-6, 2011, and one personal award
for my work on creating a reliable L2 flush routine for the SCC together with Intel.
