Entering exact science in The Netherlands

| PermalinkWhile the lack of young people entering the exact sciences and engineering is not just a Dutch problem (e.g., "NASA's under-30 population [is] one-third the size of its over-60 population"), in the Netherlands there is a disturbing drop in the number of young people opting for a career in those two fields. In 2004, the Dutch government proposed measures to address this development, ones that excel in lack of effectiveness and that are completely at odds with continuing budget cuts in education and science.
