  • Gabriel Gaston Infante-Lopez (PhD 2005)
    Gabriel worked on the Pionier project Computing with Meaning, and defended his thesis on two-level probabilistic parsing in April 2005. He is now affiliated with the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, in Argentina.
  • Christof Monz (PhD 2003)
    Christof wrote a PhD thesis on document retrieval in the context of question answering. He defended in December 2003 and joined the University of Maryland as a postdoc in early 2004.
  • Juan Heguiabehere (PhD 2003)
    Juan worked on computational modal logic and dynamic first order logic. He defended in 2003, and joined the University of Bolzano as a postdoc in early 2004.
  • Rosella Gennari (PhD 2002)
    Rosella worked on constraint propagation and automated reasoning for modal logic. She worked as an ERCIM fellow at CWI, Amsterdam, and is now working at ITC-IRST, in Trento, Italy.
  • Wiet Bouma (PhD ...)
    Wiet used to work for KPN Research and was pursueing a PhD on feature interaction in telecommunication. Unfortunately, before Wiet was able to complete his thesis, he died of cancer on October 26, 2001.
  • Carlos Areces (PhD 2000)
    Carlos worked on the theory and applications of restricted description languages such as modal logic, hybrid logic, description logic. He defended in 2000, held a two-year postdoc in our group, and currently works at Loria, Nancy.

    Thomas completed a master's thesis on generating hard random formulas using ideas from Kolmogorov complexity.
  • Christine Foeldesi (MSc 2003)
    As an exchange student from Saarbrücken, Christine worked on named entity recognition for Dutch. She graduated in September 2003.
  • Gilad Mishne (MSc 2003)
    Gilad wrote a master of logic thesis on a graph-based approach to source code retrieval. He defended in December 2003, and then joined the LIT group as a scientific programmer.
  • Simon Groenewolt (MSc 2002)
    Simon wrote a master's thesis on methods for generating concept hierarchies from corpora of natural language texts, extending a method originally due to Sanderson and Croft.
  • Harald Hammarström (MSc 2002)
    Harald completed his master's thesis on computational semantics and reasoning in open domains in Amsterdam, before moving back to Uppsala, and on to Göthenburg.

    Jeroen did his master's thesis on document length in information retrieval.
  • Börkur Sigurbjörnsson (MSc 2002)
    Börkur completed a master of logic thesis working on formal methods (and in particular model checking) for questionnaires. He is now a PhD student in the LIT group.
  • Benjamin Hirsch (MSc 2001)
    Benjamin wrote an MSc thesis on translating agent logics into decidable theories so as to obtain both decidability results and access to reasoning methods for such logics. He is now pursuing a PhD at the University of Liverpool.
  • Jon Ragetli (MSc 2001)
    Jon completed his Master of Logic studies with a thesis on concept-based access to electronic handbooks; at present he works for Xebic, a software firm in the Netherlands.

    Alexander completed a thesis on text categorization. He is now working and studying on Hawaii.
