Glad to find you on this page. You have chosen to download my text on algorithms and complexity. If you are a student in my class, that is the correct way to proceed. Skip the rest of this text and push the download button below. If you are not a student in my class, please consider the following:
First of all, ask yourself do I really want this text. It is completely in Dutch and English versions of its context can be bought (and found) everywhere. In fact, any textbook that has algorithms and complexity in its title more or less covers the same ground. Most of the other pdfs on this page have been published in some journal or other and are available through the normal channels. These are protected by copyrights and I put them on this webpage just for convenience. Whether you downloading them is legal or not is between you and your publisher. I have not been able however to interest any publisher to adopt this text, mainly because it is in Dutch, or so they claim, which is the better option for me.
However, it has been downloaded now about a 1000 times which is definitely more than can be justified from student downloads alone. This suspicion is further supported by inspection of the ip-numbers from which the download instructions came. There must be some external interest in the text, which is great news for me.
Now I have a request. If you do understand both the theory and the language, you will most probably have comments on this text after reading it. Please send me those comments. Generations of students will benefit from this and I promise thanking you in the preface. Any comments are welcome. From typos to real criticism (if constructive).
If you don't have comments, you might consider buying off copyright obligations by making a donation to my paypal account (leen@science.uva.nl), which I will then dedicate to the advancement of algorithmic research. Small donations may buy cookies at conferences, big donations (ha!) may buy projects for students. Or make some donation to some other kind of charity, or scientific endeavor, if you don't like or trust my goals. Again, you are completely free to ignore this and proceed to download. It's your conscience, not mine.
