To illustrate my research I have movies of various projects.
Speaker detection using synchrony between audio and video
Thanasis Noulas, one of my Ph.D. students, defended his thesis on audio-visual fusion for speaker diarization in april 2010. We implemented one of his methods on the iCat, which is able to use Mutual Information to detect the speaker and to look at the speaker.
Stereo vision for person detection
We developed a model of appearance-spatial descriptions of humans using a stereo camera system. This can be used for monitoring in care or interaction in games.
Appearance based map building and navigation
We use camera-based methods map building. The movie shows how the appearance map (a collection of images and spatial relations between the locations where images are taken) is made, how a path can be planned in this map and how the robot navigates using such a map.
Gaming in the library
We use camera-based methods for activity recognition. We used this in a game we implemented for the library of Almere
An example of a 'Digital Life Centre' project is the interaction with a game we
made for the library in Almere.
Navigation assistance for elderly with beginning dementia
To develop guidelines for the design of a navigation system for elderly with be
ginning dementia.
