Dear Robocuppers, The last few months the technical committee members have discussed about the rules for the RoboCup-2005 competition. The organization committee now likes to announce the changes for the RoboCup-2005 competition. The official rules documents with more details will appear on the website http://www.science.uva.nl/~jellekok/robocup/rc05/ in the coming weeks. Note that the *pre-registration* is now also open! 2D Simulation competition ------------------------- We will again have a 2D simulation competition, but limited to a maximum of 16 teams. The rules will be the same as in 2004. The first 8 out RoboCup-2004 are automatically qualified. The remaining teams will be decided by the Internet League (with the restriction that maximal 4 team per country are allowed). All teams that also participated in 2004, have to make their (working!) 2004 binary available at http://www.uni-koblenz.de/~maas/Download/Binaries/. Sent Anita (maas@uni-koblenz.de) an e-mail with the location of your binary, if you haven't done so already. To summarize: rules : same as in 2004 nr of teams : max. 16 teams qualification: first 8 2004 + 8 SSIL max. of 4 teams per country binaries should be available Jelle Kok (jellekok@science.uva.nl) is responsible for this league, so please contact him for questions or comments. 3D simulation competition ------------------------- The 3D simulation competition will be the main competition of RoboCup-2005. We like to add the following functionality to the simulator to improve the multiagent research aspects of this competition: * introduce communication * introduce cars with a view cone < 360 degrees * introduce offside + better kick power and if there is enough time or enough volunteers * introduce goalie Koblenz University will work on some of these changes, and hopes to finish some of these issues in the beginning of next year. However, any more help is appreciated. So if you are like to help with the implementation, please contact Oliver (fruit@uni-koblenz.de). This will make it easier to have the final simulator version ready in time for the competition. Depending on the number of pre-registrations, we will allow as many teams as possible, so there will be no official qualification. Only when the number of pre-registered teams is more than 30, we might reconsider. All teams that also participated in 2004, have to make their (working!) 2004 binary available at http://www.uni-koblenz.de/~maas/Download/Binaries/. Sent Anita (maas@uni-koblenz.de) an e-mail with the location of your binary, if you haven't done so already. Joschka Boedecker (jboedeck@uni-koblenz.de) is responsible for this leauge. Please contact him for questions. 3D development competition -------------------------- To improve upon the 3D competion, we are interested in new ideas for the 3D competition. Therefore we will introduce a 3D development competition in which the teams can implement their own 3D concepts. This is done in order to explicitly encourage people to develop their own 3D ideas which finally might end up in the real simulator! We will have 3 equal awards for the 3D simulator development competition (so no difference between first, second, third) which will be decided using votes of all participating teams of the simulation competitions Joschka Boedecker (jboedeck@uni-koblenz.de) is responsible for this leauge. Please contact him for questions. Coach competition ----------------- This year we will have a change in the coach competition. Instead of playing against each other or against a fixed opponent, the organizer will create a fixed opponent team which is having some obvious flaws and the (i) coach either reports the observed flaws or (ii) informs the players how to take advantage of the detected flaw. We will allow a maximum of 15 coaches for this competition. Mohammad Nejad Sedaghat (mnsedaghat@yahoo.com) is responsible for this competition. Please contact him for questions. I would like to thanks the technical committee for their useful comments and hope to see you all in Osaka next year!
