The Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics is a joint initiative between the theory institutes of the universities of Amsterdam, Leiden and Utrecht.
For any further questions, contact the coordinators, Jean-Sébastien Caux (UvA) or Cristiane de Morais Smith (Utrecht).
As part of its mission, a graduate-level educational programme will be offered, aimed at second-year Master’s students, PhD and postdoctoral researchers. This will consist of a number of successive 4 week-long modules on selected themes, each week consisting of a 2-hour long course followed by an afternoon exercise session.
The preliminary list of modules on offer for the academic year 2010-11 is given below (follow the links to obtain more details about each module, including meeting times and location; bear in mind that this is still under construction!!).
September 2010: Quantum physics in one dimension: Luttinger liquids and bosonization (J.-S. Caux, Amsterdam)
October 2010: Quantum physics in one dimension: Exactly solvable models (J.-S. Caux, Amsterdam)
November 2010: Quantum physics in two dimensions: Quantum Hall systems (C. Morais Smith, Utrecht)
December 2010: Low- and High-Tc superconductors (C. Morais Smith, Utrecht)
January 2011: Random-matrix theory (C. Beenakker, Leiden)
February 2011: Quantum dissipative systems: Caldeira-Leggett model (C. Morais Smith, Utrecht)
March 2011: Random-matrix theory (take 2) (C. Beenakker, Leiden)
April 2011: Quantum physics in one dimension: Luttinger liquids and bosonization (take 2) (J.-S. Caux, Amsterdam)
May 2011: Electron transport, linear response and the fluctuation-dissipation theorem (R. Duine, Utrecht)
June 2011: Renormalization group methods (V. Vitelli, Leiden)
Registration is not compulsory; however, if you are interested in a particular course, please send an email to the relevant teacher (click on their name in the list here under) a couple of weeks before the beginning of the course, stating your intention to attend the lectures.
