My name is Gabriel G. Infante-Lopez. Originally from San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina.

I am a Ph.D. student at the Informatics Institute, UvA, under the supervision of Maarten de Rijke and Remko Scha.

I am currently working on Natural Language Parsing.

Here is a list of my NLP related publications.

  1. Expressive Power and Consistency Properties of State-of-the-Art Natural Language Parsers, G. Infante-Lopez and M. de Rijke. To appear in proceedings of ESTAL04. LNCS.
  2. Alternative Approaches for Generating Bodies of Grammar Rules, G. Infante-Lopez and M. de Rijke. In: Proceedings 42nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL 2004), 2004.[pdf](This version differs from proceeding's one in that Figure 5.4 has been corrected.)  [All plots related to this paper].
  3. Comparing the Ambiguity Reduction Abilities of Probabilistic Context-Free Grammars, G. Infante-Lopez and M. de Rijke. Proceedings LREC 2004, 2004. [pdf]
  4. W-Grammars for Parsing. (Abstract). G. Infante-Lopez and M. de Rijke. CLIN03. 2003. [pdf]
  5. A General Probabilistic Model for Dependency Parsing, G.G. Infante-Lopez, M. de Rijke, and K. Sima'an. In: Proceedings BNAIC'02, pages 139-146, 2002.[pdf]

Submitted

  1. Can Probabilities Be Mimicked by Rules?, G. Infante-Lopez and M. de Rijke. Submitted 2003.[pdf]

Current Work.

I am currently optimizing verb clustering using the Perplexity measures described in "Alternative Approaches for Generating Bodies of Grammar Rules". If you feel this might interest you, let me know.

Previous Work.

Before NLP, I worked in Modal Logic
  1. Decomposing Modal Logic, G. Infante-Lopez, C. Areces, and M. de Rijke. In: P. Balbiani, N.-Y. Suzuki, and F. Wolter, editors, Workshop Proceedings AiML 2002, pages 189-204, IRIT, Toulouse, 2002.[pdf]
  2. Controlled model exploration, G. Infante-Lopez, C. Areces, and M. de Rijke.  In: Ph. Balbiani, N.-Y. Suzuki, F. Wolter, and M. Zakharyaschev, editors, Advances in Modal Logic, Volume 4, pages 205-220, King's College London Publications. [pdf]
  3. Structured Problems in Modal Satisfiability Testing, J. Heguiabehere, G. Infante-Lopez, and M. de Rijke. In: Workshop Proceedings M4M-2.
Before Modal Logic, in Stochastic Modelling.
  1. Beyond Memoryless Distributions: Model Checking semi-Markov Chains. G. I. Infante Lopez, H. Hermanns, and J.-P. Katoen. In Proc. PAPM-ProbMiV 2001, Springer LNCS 2165, p. 57-70, 2001.
Before Stochastic Modelling, I worked for my master thesis in Universal Algebra.  My master thesis is entitled The algebraic study of the if-then-else-operator under the supervision of Prof. Diego Vaggione.

Here is a picture of myself. Be aware of the viking though. btw, I'm the tall one.
