Daniel Fontijne has a masters degree in artificial intelligence (University of Amsterdam, 2000, cum laude). His masters thesis was on evolving virtual life in simulated environments. During and after his study he worked at a motion capture studio for a year, where he developed a system for blending human motions. He also had an internship at the UvA / SARA where he developed a system for performance measurements in CAVE applications.

After his motion capture job he became a scientific programmer at the UvA (University of Amsterdam), working on the subject of geometric algebra. This appointment smoothly transitioned in to a PhD study, and he hopes to defend his thesis in October 2007.

During this PhD study, Daniel co-authored the book Geometric Algebra for Computer Science, published by Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, an imprint of Elsevier.

Presently he is appointed as post-doctoral researcher at the UvA, doing research on applying conformal geometric algebra to markerless motion capture.

In 2007 Daniel founded the company Fontijne Production Services in order to commercialize the optical motion capture system he developed for Yvonne Fontijne.
