Welcome To The Website Of..

I am a postdoc Astronomer working in the Astronomical Institute of the University of Amsterdam. My research concerns the observational properties of accreting black holes and neutron stars. Click here if you'd like to know more about my work.

I completed my Ph.D. in 2007 at the University of Southampton, under supervision of Professor Rob Fender. Before my Ph.D. in Southampton I did a one year Masters Degree (MSc by research) based on La Palma in the Canary Islands, and before that I was an undergraduate studying Astrophysics at the University of Hertfordshire. I was born in Nuneaton in the Midlands (UK) and grew up in Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire.

"Maybe I believe that there is a creator, maybe there is some divine spark in all this, otherwise its an incredible accident, its an incredible solar fluke, all of this, just an accident, of cosmic parking. Yeah, we're just the right distance from the Sun for all this wonder to occur? Mercury - nothing. Venus - nothing. Earth - fridge magnets, hummus, Spandau Ballet, anything you want." - the wisdom of Bill Bailey.
