Graphical representation of qualitative simulations

Samenvatting

Graphical languages can be used to effectively communicate complex information. Most knowledge based systems do not use graphical languages, mainly because of their propositional nature. These systems can be made more insightful by using graphics to represent the knowledge. The question is how to construct a graphical representation based on the propositional 'output' of knowledge based systems. In this research a system dealing with qualitative simulations is used as a base for constructing a graphical front-end. The construction of the front-end has served as a means to experiment with ideas about the graphical representation of the predictions produced by qualitative simulators. As a result an environment is created in which qualitative simulations can be analysed in a more intuitive manner than possible through propositional representations.
