  • Deputy theme leader Language and Computation (L&C), Institute for Logic Language and Computation (ILLC), UvA. Starting  January 2006 (L&C is one of the three "theme projects" that constitute the ILLC).

  • Grants, Project Acquisition and Awards:
    • Jan 2012: Free Competition of NWO Exact Sciences Board, project proposal: Statistical Translation of Novel Constructions
    • Jan 2010: Free Competition of NWO Exact Sciences Board, project proposal: Machine Translation When Exact Pattern Match Fails.
    • Barbara Plank wins  IBM &  KRDB  best thesis award  for  her thesis  ``Subdomain-driven parsing" (supervisor: Khalil Sima'an) within the European Masters Programme LCT, section "Language and Communications Technologies".
    • BNAIC 2007 best paper award for a paper by Markos Mylonakis and Khalil Sima'an (Nov 2007)
    • July 2006, awarded a VIDI grant (Euro 766K) from NWO-EW (details to appear soon).
    • March 2006, The project 'ATTEMPT: "All Trees" Efficient Models of Parsing and Translation' (PI: Andy Way, collaborators Mary Hearne  and myself  has just been accepted for Euro 166K funding by SFI (2 PhD grants at DCU).
    • January 2005, Co-supervisor and project leader of MOSAIC project  (awarded to Reut Tsarfati) "Probabilistic Models for Intergrated Morph. and Syntactic Processing of Modern Hebrew Text".

      Summer Language Engineering Workshop 2005 (Johns Hopkins University -- JHU) : A unique series of workshops organized by Center for Language and Speech Processing on NLP.
      Senior researcher: The 13th edition (2005) of the Summer Language Engineering Workshop series, CLSP, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.
      Organizers/hosts:  Professor Frederick Jelinek and his CLSP collaborators (esp.  Sanjeev Khudanpur  and Jason Eisner).
      Project:(11 July - 19 August)  Parsing Arabic Dialects project. In short, this projectinvestigates how to leverage available syntactic resources for families of resource-poor languages (e.g. dialect).
