This course consists of a basic introduction to general relativity. The course
will not follow any specific book, nor will there be very extensive lecture notes,
but a significant part of the course is close in spirit and content to the material
covered in the lecture notes of Sean Carroll, see the third link below.
Below I
keep track of the various topics covered each week; using books if necessary,
and the astonishing amount of material available on the web, it shouldn't be to hard
to find additional background material. Two books worth mentioning are
S.
Weinberg, Gravitation and Cosmology (Wiley, 1972).
This is an excellent book, which covers several subjects in great detail, it is however
rather expensive and does not cover everything, there is for instance almost nothing about
black holes in this book
There are several lecture notes available on the web, such as (list taken from Sean Carroll's webpage)
The course will contain various exercises. These can be handed in starting
with the exercises from October 9.
